Six Mill Creek High students have been suspended for involvement in an on-campus fight that was captured with a cell phone camera and posted on YouTube. About 10 students claiming to be members of a gang called "2-1" beat up another student Tuesday on the Gwinnett campus, Principal Jim Markham said in a video message to parents on the school Web site. The fight lasted for about five minutes, beginning in one area of the school and moving to the commons area before administrators and teachers could break it up, Markham said. Another student recorded the fight on a cell phone camera and posted the video on YouTube, he said. The video of the fight has been removed from YouTube. Markham pledged that all students involved will be punished as he tried to calm parents' concerns about safety at the school. School officials continue to investigate the fight. Markham said involved students will face disciplinary and criminal charges. "If you are going to look like a thug, pretend you are a thug, act like a thug and be a thug, then we're going to treat you like a thug," Markham said in the video. Markham said fighting is not typically at the school, which has more than 4,000 students. He said the school can go several weeks without a fight. He assured parents that the school is not out of control. "Mill Creek is a safe and secure education environment," Markham said.
